Frequently asked questions
Aquarium is a digital workforce for small and mid-sized manufacturers running Fishbowl Advanced: AI assistants (starting with Buyer, then Planner and Manufacturing Manager) that do real operational work inside Fishbowl Advanced. Each one handles a specific role: creating purchase orders, generating production schedules, managing manufacturing orders. Every action follows deterministic workflows grounded in your ERP data, and nothing changes in your system without your approval.
Small and mid-sized manufacturers running Fishbowl Advanced, typically 5 to 100 employees, where a lean team carries most of the operational load. The common pattern is a business where purchasing, sales order processing, production planning, and shop floor coordination all run through a handful of experienced people, and where Fishbowl is doing its job but leaves a lot of manual work on top. Aquarium is built for that business. Buyer Assistant is live today. Planner arrives June 2026. Manufacturing Manager, Business Analyst, and Assembler arrive summer 2026. If you're a Fishbowl Advanced shop and any of those roles sound like bottlenecks, Aquarium is built for you.
Yes. Aquarium is AI built for Fishbowl Advanced, the on-premise and hosted platform used by thousands of manufacturers. If you're running Fishbowl Advanced (sometimes called Fishbowl Manufacturing or Fishbowl Inventory), Aquarium is the only AI that does the work of purchasing, planning, and production management inside your ERP. Fishbowl also offers Juno, its own AI assistant, but Juno is only available on the new cloud Fishbowl platform for QuickBooks and Xero users. It's not available for Fishbowl Advanced. Fishbowl AI Insights is available for Fishbowl Advanced, but it's a reporting and analytics assistant, not an agent that executes work. Not sure which version you're on? Fishbowl Advanced is a desktop application you install or access through a hosted server. The new cloud Fishbowl runs in a web browser.
Create Bid Requests and POs from chat or CSV. Create and manage blanket POs. Find what's on order and what's late. Order based on reorder points. Get suggestions on items you normally order together. Look up supplier and pricing history. Get alerts on time-sensitive issues.

No. Aquarium works on top of Fishbowl Advanced. It reads your ERP data (parts, BOMs, suppliers, inventory, orders) and uses it to run workflows like purchasing, planning, and production management. Your Fishbowl Advanced system stays exactly as it is. No migration, no data export, no system replacement.
Every action follows programmatic workflows grounded in your actual Fishbowl data, not probabilistic guesses. The system shows its work at every step, explains what it did and why, and waits for your confirmation before writing anything to Fishbowl. Every action is logged. Other chat-based AI copilots generate suggestions without guarantees. Aquarium executes real work with a full audit trail.
Nothing writes to Fishbowl without your confirmation, so "wrong" usually means an assistant suggested something you didn't want, and you simply didn't approve it. This is true for every assistant: a Buyer Assistant suggesting a PO, a Planner Assistant proposing a production schedule, a Manufacturing Manager Assistant preparing a work order. You stay in the approval loop for all of it. If an approved action turns out to be incorrect, every action is logged with a full audit trail: what the assistant proposed, what you confirmed, what changed in Fishbowl, and when. You can review and reverse it in Fishbowl the same way you'd reverse any other entry. We also investigate the pattern with you so the same suggestion doesn't come up again.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use row-level security to isolate each customer's data. We run our own LLM in our own AWS environment. No customer data is sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or other third-party AI services, and no customer data is used to train our models.
An API user account on your Fishbowl Advanced instance. Both read and write happen through that account: reading parts, BOMs, suppliers, inventory, and order history, and writing back approved actions like POs, sales orders, and manufacturing orders. We support both on-premise and hosted Fishbowl Advanced installations. You don't need to change your Fishbowl version, upgrade hardware, or open your system to the public internet. The same API account serves every Aquarium assistant, so adding Planner, Manufacturing Manager, or any future role later doesn't require a new integration project.
The naming is confusing. Fishbowl Advanced is the original, full-featured manufacturing and inventory management platform. Desktop application, used by thousands of manufacturers. Fishbowl also uses "Fishbowl Inventory" as a broader brand, and more recently launched a cloud-based platform aimed at QuickBooks and Xero users. Aquarium is built for Fishbowl Advanced, the on-premise or hosted version with the desktop client. If you're using that system to manage purchasing, inventory, BOMs, and production, Aquarium is built for you.
They're built for different Fishbowl platforms. Juno is Fishbowl's own AI assistant for their new cloud platform (QuickBooks and Xero users). Like Aquarium, Juno does real operational work: preparing purchase orders, manufacturing orders, and bills of material. But Juno only runs on the new cloud Fishbowl, and today best fits light assembly, light manufacturing, HVAC, and packaging. Aquarium is built for Fishbowl Advanced, the on-premise and hosted version used by thousands of manufacturers. If you're on Fishbowl Advanced, Aquarium is your AI layer.
Fishbowl AI Insights and Aquarium address different needs. Fishbowl AI Insights answers reporting questions about your data. Aquarium executes operational workflows: creating POs, managing blanket orders, handling approvals, monitoring exceptions. Many teams will use both.
Every migration is a risk. You move your data, validate it arrived intact (parts, BOMs, supplier records, pricing history), retrain your team on a new interface, and run both systems in parallel for weeks. If you're a lean manufacturer, you probably don't have the time or headcount for that. And Juno today best fits a narrow set of verticals: light assembly, light manufacturing, HVAC, and packaging. Outside those, migration doesn't even get you the AI yet. Aquarium protects your investment in Fishbowl Advanced. Your data stays where it is. Your team keeps the system they know. Custom reports and workflows you've built over the years keep working. Instead of replacing your ERP, we put a conversational interface on top of it that handles the work your ERP was never designed to do alone.
That's a big reason to extend your system instead of replacing it. A migration means re-validating every integration: accounting, eStore, CRM, shipping, EDI. With Aquarium, nothing changes. Your QuickBooks sync, Shopify integration, Zoho or Salesforce CRM, UPS shipping workflows all keep working. Aquarium adds AI assistants that help you run your ERP. It's not a new system that forces you to rewire everything.
Today, Aquarium is built for Fishbowl Advanced, the desktop-based manufacturing and inventory management system. We're starting there to address the gap in AI support for long-time Fishbowl users. We plan to bring Aquarium to the new cloud Fishbowl as well. If you're on the new cloud Fishbowl (QuickBooks or Xero, runs in a browser), Fishbowl's own Juno AI is available there today for certain manufacturing verticals. Not sure which version you have? See "What is the difference between Fishbowl Advanced and Fishbowl Inventory?" above, or email us at hello@aqmfg.com.
Setup typically takes two calls with our team. We connect to your Fishbowl Advanced instance and configure the assistants for your parts, suppliers, and workflows. No system migration, no data export, no IT project.
No. Early access is free with no commitment and no credit card. When we launch publicly, early access members lock in founding member pricing, and standard plans are month-to-month or annual at the customer's choice. No multi-year lock-ins. Pricing scales with units of work across the assistants (POs issued, sales orders processed, manufacturing orders prepared) rather than per-seat fees, so adding more of your team to the system doesn't penalize you.
Free use of the Buyer Assistant during the early access period, with no commitment to renew. No credit card. Planner is added to your account when it ships in June 2026, and Manufacturing Manager, Business Analyst, and Assembler are added when they ship in summer 2026. You work directly with our team, your feedback goes straight into the product, and you lock in founding member pricing when we launch publicly.
Yes. Early access is the trial. You get free use of the Buyer Assistant today. Planner is added when it ships in June 2026, and Manufacturing Manager, Business Analyst, and Assembler follow in summer 2026. You work directly with our team on setup and see the assistants run against your real Fishbowl data before any commercial discussion. If it doesn't fit, you walk away. That's the whole point of this stage.
We're targeting $99 per month for the Buyer Assistant at 200 POs issued per month, with no cap on purchasing analysis. Planner is expected to be priced based on monthly production schedule runs. Manufacturing Manager is expected to be priced based on monthly Work Orders. We're not locking in the final numbers yet. We want customer feedback to shape the tiers, and we're still calibrating against the real cost of running the AI at scale. Early access is free with no commitment, and early access members lock in founding member pricing when we launch publicly.
